Dysport is the “kissing cousin” to Botox and works the same way, by relaxing the muscles in the brow and between the eyes stopping the muscle contractions. It works quickly, with most patients seeing results in two or three days. It is a neuromodulator or ‘wrinkle relaxer’ used to treat the fine lines and wrinkles around the forehead, glabellar and crows feet, and is great for the treatment of “bunny lines” or “wolf lines” on the nose.
Dysport can be used in treating the DAO muscles that pull down the corner of the mouth, the masseter muscles to provide a more angular look in the jaw, and “necklace lines” in the neck to provide a more youthful appearance to the neck. Dysport is also able to be used to treat the fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, and, in very small doses, can give a slight lift to the upper lip.

Receiving a Dysport treatment takes only minutes and requires no anesthetic, although if you prefer, topical anesthetic options are available to minimize any discomfort. Dysport is applied directly to the muscles through a fine needle, with most patients reporting only minor sensation and/or discomfort during the short procedure. Dysport requires a higher volume of product compared to Botox, it takes approximately two and a half to three units of Dysport for every one unit of Botox. At the same time, Dysport has a lower per unit cost than Botox, so even though Dysport requires a greater number of units, it has a comparable rate to Botox. Dysport begins to take effect much sooner than Botox, within two days, and full effect within a week. Though most patients love their results, we always ask to schedule a follow up for two weeks after the initial appointment so that any potential concerns can be addressed.
